Richard Burns is a general partner of Isis Ventures Partners and chairman of its operating companies, which include: Manhattan Media; Latin Trade Group; Dan’s Papers; and Datarisk Global Holdings. In New York, Isis has built a market-leading community media enterprise. In Latin America, its holdings represent the leading information, networking and business services company for corporations operating regionally. Richard formed Isis Ventures with his co-general partner James Lyle in 2002.
Until he stepped down in May 2002, Richard was president and Chief Executive Officer of Thomson Financial Media (TFM), a company holding the banking, insurance and electronic commerce media assets of The Thomson Corporation. TFM was a major publisher and developer of software tools for professionals in the financial services industry with revenues in excess of $300 million. Prior to joining Thomson, Richard was the president and CEO of Euromoney Publications America, Inc. In this role he was chief executive officer and publisher of Institutional Investor, the world’s leading magazine for investment and finance professionals. Richard was on the Euromoney team that made the acquisition of Institutional Investor from Disney/ABC in 1997. Additionally while at Euromoney, Richard was president and editor-in-chief of Miami-based Latin Finance, the leading publishing, directory and conference company devoted to finance and investment in Latin America. Richard has served on a variety of both public and private boards including 24/7 Real Media and Interaudi Bank, where he has served as chairman of the Audit Committee. Richard has also sat as an ex-officio member of the Board of Trustees of the American Museum of Natural History since 2007. He was educated at St. John’s College, Oxford, the Ludwig-Maximilians Institute at the University of Munich and Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
Mr. Lyle was most recently the Chief Investment Officer of Millgate Capital, Inc., which he co-founded in 1997. From 1993 to 1997, he was a Managing Director of Tiger Management LLC, with responsibility for international equity and emerging market investment. From 1991 to 1993, he served as fund manager with Fidelity Management and Research in Boston where he was responsible for the Overseas and International Opportunity funds, as well as various institutional assets. From 1985 to 1991, he was a Vice President of Morgan Stanley, where he was responsible for European equity assets as well as for establishing the Portuguese Investment Fund (London Stock Exchange listed) and the Turkish Investment Fund (NYSE listed). He has also served as a member of the Barron’s International Roundtable. He is currently Vice Chairman of the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, a board member of the GL Group, and a trustee of the Tiger Foundation. He has a BA from St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University and served as a research officer at the London Business School, London University from 1983 to 1985.
Prior to joining Isis Venture Partners, William was a director at Haymarket Media Group, where he most recently served as Chairman & CEO of Haymarket Media Inc.. During 25 years in media William has overseen a diverse range of sectors including: Management, HR, Government, Information Security, Compliance, Healthcare, Marketing, PR, Urban Planning, Horticulture, Logistics, Internet Marketing and Technology, Motor Racing, Family, Luxury, Horse Racing and Breeding. William has acquired, launched and had operating responsibility for magazines, newspapers, directories, databases and has extensive digital and event management experience in the UK, USA, Canada, and Hong Kong William began his career at JP Morgan Inc. in corporate finance and capital markets, and is a graduate of Worcester College, Oxford University, BA and MA (OXON). William is British, a US Resident, and lives with his wife and three children in Greenwich, CT.
Prior joining Isis Venture Partners, Matt was a Managing Director at Millgate Capital. At Millgate, Matt has managed a broad array of asset classes and strategies including distressed, venture investing, and media private equity. Prior to Millgate, Mr. Lambert worked as an analyst at Granite Capital Partners, a private equity investment firm. Mr. Lambert has also served as the Assistant to the Chairman of Raymond James Financial, Inc. (NYSE-RJF). Mr. Lambert speaks Spanish and Portuguese, received a BA in English from Brigham Young University, an MA in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from The Wharton School.
